Back to School Shopping
(view article on the Gaston Jaycees involvement in the community)
Each August, before school starts, the Gaston County Jaycees team up with Least of These Gaston and go “Back to School Shopping.” We take 34 children shopping at Target.
Each child receives $100 to take care of their needs such as school supplies and and some new clothes to start the new school year.
This project is very rewarding because you are able to interact with the kids and get a chance to see life through their eyes. It is a wonderful feeling to see the joy on their faces and how much they appreciate the new clothes and supplies.
The purpose of the David Gaines Memorial Scholarship is to recognize and award an outstanding high school senior who reflects the mission of the Jaycees organization. We aim to assist a senior in high school with tuition by awarding up to eight semesters of scholarship assistance at $500 per semester. This scholarship is in honor of David Gaines, a former Jaycee who passed away. The goals of the David Gaines Memorial Scholarship is to recognize and award a future leader in the community through a college scholarship, and to continue to pay tribute to David Gaines. Applicants will have the opportunity to apply for the scholarship every year in March and the winners will be announced in late-May to early-June.
Distinguished Service Awards
Each year the Gaston County Jaycees honors our community servants. These exceptional people have gone above and beyond their call of duty. We recognize emergency personnel, teachers, a student, business leaders, businesses, and award the Gaston County Jaycees Lifetime Civic Achievement Award, sponsored by W. Duke Kimbrell.
Over the past 63 years this event has grown to become one of the longest running and prestigious events in Gaston County.
Gastonia Christmas Parade
We have been hosting the Christmas Parade for over 60 years. Since the inception of this project it has exceeded 100 entries, and we have added a best float, best performance and best overall contest for the participants. The Jaycees are responsible for bringing the Christmas Parade back to Main Street.
